Table Tennis England webinar: What you need to know about DBS changes from September 2026

Table Tennis England will host a special online webinar to help clubs and volunteers better understand changes to DBS requirements – the criminal record checking service in the United Kingdom. The event will take place from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm (UK time) on Tuesday, September 29, 2026. The session will be led by Kyhl Daly, the designated Safeguarding Officer at Table Tennis England. From September 1, 2026, the Crime and Policing Act 2026 removed the supervision exemption from the legal definition of Regulated Activity. Previously, some volunteers and coaches working with children under supervision did not need a DBS check. That is no longer the case. Supervised roles are now treated the same as unsupervised ones. The webinar is aimed at Club Welfare Officers, club and league committee members, and volunteers who regularly work with children. Participants will learn about the regulatory change, how it affects them, and how Table Tennis England processes DBS checks. The session will also highlight the importance of DBS checks in safeguarding children in sport. Because table tennis relies heavily on volunteers, including parents and part-time helpers, many roles were previously considered exempt if they were supervised. That has changed. Any role involving regular work with children, including coaching, supervising, or instructing, will now require the appropriate level of DBS check. During the webinar, Kyhl Daly will explain the processes in a practical way, allowing clubs to ask questions about real situations.
